Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. – Psalm 7:1
How do you react when you are falsely accused? What is your response to people who hurt you? What do you do when people are mean to you? I know what the human being is inclined to do. He wants to fight back right away. ‘I will hurt them back.’ It feels good to hit back. But Jesus would say: ‘You did not behave well. You repaid evil with evil.’
God wants you to laugh last
It hurts when people speak badly about you or when you are not treated nicely. How come man is inclined to defend himself? That is because the human nature longs to take revenge.
But watch carefully what God says in His Word: ‘It is Mine to avenge; I will repay’ (Deuteronomy 32:35). God will justify you. You do not have to do that yourself. He wants you to laugh last.
Do not take revenge
‘But how will God do this, I am very angry’! Read what Romans 12:19 says: ‘Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is Mine to avenge; I will repay,’says the Lord.’ So, you have a choice: a) You take revenge; of b) You allow God to take revenge on your behalf. But remember: you cannot do both at the same time, it is either one or the other. You give it to God or you take revenge yourself. If you decide to take revenge, then God says: ‘OK, do it yourself, you don’t need Me for this.’
However, God wants you to put this in His hands. He says: ‘Leave it to Me. I will determine the penalty for everything that has been done to you.’ Dear reader, God will bless you if you do this. God will exalt you; you do not have to take care of it.
Do not spend your time, money or energy on your enemies. Do not allow bitterness and do not behave similarly to the other person who has hurt you. Remember, God is righteous and He will make you laugh last!
