If You can do anything, take pity on us and help us.’ ‘If You can?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes. – Mark 9:22-23

From an early age, this son in Mark 9 had been dumb. He could not speak though there was nothing wrong with his ability to speak. The Bible tells us that there was an evil spirit in him. The father said that this spirit often wanted to kill the boy by throwing him into the fire or water. This father loved his son and went to Jesus for healing and asked Him: ‘If You can do anything, take pity on us and help us.’ Then the Lord Jesus answered him: ‘If You can? Everything is possible for one who believes.’

Do you believe?

The Lord Jesus actually meant: ‘Do you ask Me if I can do something? Of course I can, but it is about whether you are able to believe that I can heal the boy.’

Everything is possible

When it comes to the cleansing, saving and healing power of Jesus Christ, there are no ‘ifs’ as this father said here. Jesus can always save sinners and He can always heal people.

Jesus is not only the Son of God; He is God: He is the Creator of heaven and earth. He has created the billions of stars and galaxies and knows them by name. He knows how much hair you have on your head. What is it that God does not know! God speaks and it is there. God commands and it is done. Today He says to you and me: ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’

Praise the Lord! We have a wonderful God. God can do everything and wants to do this for those who believe.

‘Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him’ (Hebrews 11:6).

God is not the issue when we do not receive. Man is the problem. God does not reward unbelief. God rewards belief. Jesus came to this earth and gave His life as a ransom. He gave His life for anyone who wants to believe in Him and accept Him.
