Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowd… He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. Later that night, He was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. – Matthew 14:22-25

This Bible scripture clearly states that Jesus made His disciples get into the boat. You do not force something without a reason. You do this when you want to achieve something by doing it. Jesus knew His disciples would end up in a storm, becauseGod knows everything.

On the one hand, the disciples found themselves in a severe storm. On the other hand, Jesus was on the mountain praying for them so that they would not falter but believe in Him during the hour of temptation.

An important lesson

This boat trip, the waves and the storm, served as an important lesson Jesus wanted to teach His disciples.

Of course, the disciples knew who Jesus was. They had seen many miracles. He was to them the Christ, the Anointed and the Son of God. He was the great Teacher who taught them how to pray.

But they did not know Jesus in the storm of their lives yet. These men who had walked with Him daily did not recognize Him when He approached them on the waves.

In the storm with Jesus

This is the reason for so many problems today. We trust God in many things. We believe that He is our Savior, our Healer and Provider. However, when a violent storm suddenly enters our lives, many people do not believe that Jesus is still close to them in this storm. They cannot believe that God sometimes allows a storm in our lives to teach us to trust in Him when things get difficult.

When you see Jesus in the storms of your life, this will give you strength, courage, faith and hope to go through all other storms.
