Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – Hebrews 11:1
When the Lord God asks a person to have faith, then He actually asks for something which goes beyond reason. Faith is quite irrational, yet everything has to do with faith. Going to church has to do with faith. The entire Bible is about faith. This message is not only for believers, but for everyone.
What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the certainty that our hope will become reality and to be convinced of the existence of things that you do not see. Faith has something unreal in it. It is irrational if you want to understand it with your mind. It asks you to believe in something you do not see without giving you tangible proof that it exists.
Many Christians go through a deep and dark valley. A valley of disappointments, struggle and pain. However, if you understand this message, it will help you through difficult times.
Take Noah’s faith, for example. Noah lived in a wicked society. Noah was the only righteous man and God told him that he could save himself and his family by building an ark. It took him 120 years to do this and he never thought that he might have misunderstood God.
Hebrews 11:7 therefore says: ‘By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.’
Noah had nothing but the Word of God. It was never seen and never done before, but Noah trusted in God. Let’s believe what God said and build our lives on it.
