The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything. – Deuteronomy 2:7
In this Bible scripture, Moses looks back at the journey in the desert and tells the people that God has been with them all these years and that they have not lacked anything.
It is a man’s habit to count his years, we all do this. Some people do not like to count their years. Every effort is made to look younger. However, if you are smart, you know that you are not getting younger. Especially God’s children should not be bothered with this at all. Aging has its advantages: as another year passes, you come closer to heaven.
There is one problem. My father sometimes sighed as he was getting older and said: ‘I have one problem and that is the time.’ My father wanted to do much more for the Lord, but the hourglass was emptying. As the years pass by and you get older, the feeling of eternity has to increase!
It is good to think about death and what will happen after you pass away. It is good to think about this when you are young, and your strength is still optimal. What can I do for God and my fellow man? If you only start thinking about it when you are old and maybe in a wheelchair, it will be too late. Give your life to God’s work when you are still young. You will not stay young; the years will go by for sure!
When Moses looked back, he gave God an important place in these forty years. Moses said: ‘The Lord your God has blessed you.’ If you look back today, God should have had an important place in your life. Looking back, you should be able to say; ‘God has not been a theory in recent years. God has blessed me. He was always there for me.’
