For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. – Hebrews 8:12

To forget is often seen as a weakness and we have different medicines to combat this. However, the Bible contradicts this in abovementioned Scripture. Maybe you think that it is impossible for God to forget things. However, the omnipotent God who knows everything, forgets our sins!

To forgive and forget

God says: ‘I will remember their sins no more.’ When we are truly sorry for our sins and mistakes, we can go to God with a sincere heart and ask Him for forgiveness. He will not only remove our sins from His book, but also from His memory. He does not think about them anymore. This means that He forgets them!

We should also forget things in our lives. Whatever we have done in our lives, if God forgets that, we should certainly do the same. People often say: ‘Yes, I want to forgive him, but I will never forget what happened.’ It is a wonderful characteristic of God that He is able to forget and does it indeed. Forgetting will do you good. You will become happier and find peace in your heart.

Firstly, you have to forget your sins after you have asked God for forgiveness. Secondly, you must forgive the other who did you wrong, and then you should also forget the wrong done to you. There are always people who cannot come to terms with the past. If you are such a person, this will not help you at all. It is not good for you, your family, your marriage, your work environment or for your church.

Let go of the past

You can do today what God does: forget! Apply the art of forgetting and say as God says: ‘I will remember their sins no more.’ Be a happy person by starting to forgive and forget. Release this heavy load and you will be released from it. Let’s say together with Paul: ‘But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal’ (Philippians 3:13-14).
