And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. – John 14:16

Jesus calls the Holy Spirit our Helper or Comforter. A comforter is someone who assists and encourages you in times of need, pain and misery. It reminds me of a loving father or mother who watches over the child. When I was young and afraid of the storm, I crawled far under the bed cover. But when the storm did not stop, I went to my mother and was allowed to hide close to her in her large bed while she was comforting me. I then felt safe. How sad is it that there are children who have never had such a person to look after them! This is what a comforter does.

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter

The Holy Spirit comforts your soul in the same way. He makes sure that your soul feels safe with Him. Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit as a Comforter because He knew that times would come when the disciples would need a genuine Comforter.

Today too we see that Christians need a genuine Comforter in their lives. There is a lot of sadness and struggle. I sometimes hear people say: ‘Yes, but I don’t notice this especially now that I need a comforter.’

And yet, dear readers, the Holy Spirit comforts you, because time and again He allows you to experience that He is there for you. However, it is so important to walk by faith and to believe what God said: ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you. I will be with you all the days of your life.’

While you do not feel anything yet, you will still thank God and tell Him that you trust His Word. Then suddenly you will come out of that dark tunnel, there is light around you, and you receive peace and joy. God will comfort you with His precious love!
