BY: JOHN T.L. MAASBACH

There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank God, several times a day, for the wonderful life that He has given me and still gives. I feel the most blessed man on the face of this earth and feel that He treats me as one of His “beloved.”

Not that I am better than anyone or am of higher standard, but He is always with me and His ear is open toward me. His eye is always upon me. His loving arms are always surrounding me. And He has poured out His rest, peace and joy in my heart. He has given me a good and sweet wife and three sons and a daughter-in-law that love Him.

They are all born again and are filled with the Holy Spirit. On top of that, they are all chosen and called to be full-time in His service. For almost 35 years, I have traveled around the world, sharing the good news everywhere that Jesus is alive and everyone can make it right with God the Father through Him. He has always confirmed His Word through signs, miracles and wonders and He has always brought me home safely.

“These principles work and have given me a very good and blessed life. I am sure they will also work for you.”

Principles of the good life
When I was young, God gave me some principles from His Word, that He wanted me to live by. He also gave me His promise that He would help and bless me. Here are a few of them. I am sure they will also work for you.

1) Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you
James 4:8 says: “Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you.” Whatever happens in my life – whether I am disappointed, sad, angry, in sin, afraid, or whatever it is – the moment I draw nearer to God, He will draw nearer to me! This is the promise He gave me. He will come and make all things wonderfully well. He will lead me out of my situation, comfort me, rebuke me, encourage me, forgive me, heal me, etc.

2) Be holy, for I am holy
1 Peter 1:16 says: “Because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”” God wants me (and you and everybody) to live in a holy manner. No matter how the rest of your family may live, or your neighbors, colleagues and the rest of this world. Whatever the law of your country may approve or disapprove. Whatever society considers normal today. God wants me to live according to His Word, His will and His way. Then, His blessing will always be upon me. And when I fail, I need to make it right with Him again as quickly as possible. I cannot live this kind of life in my own strength, but He gives me the strength I need.

3) Ask Me what you want
God said to king David in 2 Samuel 12:8: ”I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more!” By this word, the Lord spoke to me: “Whatever you need or think you need, ask Me and seek it from Me. The world cannot give you more than I can give you. And if you desire more, come to Me! There is no reason why you should go into this world; I will look after you.” God has always done that. Nothing in this world can give the peace, joy and fulfillment that God has given me. He has filled me and given me all I have ever needed.

4) Without Me you can do nothing
John 15:5 says: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.“ In other words: “John, you can work hard, be smart, educated. You can have a strong will, discipline and train yourself and pull out all modern and old tricks. But without Me, you can do nothing! You can build a large church in your own strength, gather a great multitude around you, show a beautiful building to the people… But in My eyes, and in the long term, this means absolutely NOTHING! What you can do in My power, may be despised by man, but it produces everlasting fruit.”

5) All things are possible for those who believe
Jesus says in Mark 9:23: “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.“ As a child of God and especially as a preacher of the Word of God, you need to live by faith in God and His Word. Not by what you see, feel and fear. Over and over again, this faith is attacked by everything and everyone around you. Especially by the devil and his evil spirits. The worst kind of attacks are not even from the outside, but from the voice of unbelief in your own mind. By the Word of God and the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to rise above that! “I’I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord“ (Psalm 121). Always keep your eyes upon Jesus. That is the secret of a good life.

These principles work and have given me a very good and blessed life. There are more of them, but I will share those some other day.
